With the rise of digital music and streaming videos, CDs and DVDs will eventually fade like floppy disks and vinyl records. Maybe it’s not that serious quite yet, but technology definitely seems to be heading that way. Mosaic can be any picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material like stones, tiles or glass. DIY Mosaic is fun to do and can be really impressive for a handmade project. Mosaic has also been produced with brilliance by recycling old CDs, paper, beans, seeds, egg shells and so much more.

The most important part when cutting the CDs is to be careful not to damage the holographic film which is the most fragile part and also the one that we want to preserve because the effect they give off is really the star of this show – plastic cutting scissors should do the trick! Also I have realized that that beautiful shiny stuff will wash right off if you don’t protect it with something. So a friend of mine suggested using Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss to spray the individual pieces. It’s non-yellowing and good for indoor and outdoor projects.
