How To Make Tallow Emergency Candles
Tallow candles don’t sound good to us – a sooty wick burning in animal fat – but for centuries they were a reliable way of having some light after dark. Tallow was once widely used to make moulded candles before wax varieties became available…they’re a cheaper alternative and can be made easily at home!
You will need:
- Canning jars (My wicks were rather short, so pint-sized jars were perfect)
- Tallow OR lard OR soy wax
- Wicks (one per jar)
These candles are fantastic in any emergency or power shortage. They produce a bright light, as well as being a great source of warmth too. What do you think? Will you be making these anytime soon? Find out how to make them over at theprairiehomestead.com…
